Cross Country

20th November 2013

Thirty three brave students formed our cross country team for the Clare Cross Country Schools competition held in Lees Road, Ennis on 14th November. The day was fine, though windy at times and conditions under foot were surprisingly dry considering the rain that had fallen in the previous days.

Our minor girls team had four top ten finishers in their 1.5km race which resulted in their team  achieving 2nd place in that section. Results: Roisin McMahon 5th, Ella McNamara 7th, Alex Stewart 10th, Louise O’Callaghan 11th, Karla Murray 15th and Shauna Canny and Shannon Waterstone also on the team.

The Intermediate boys had Ennis Track runner Noah McMahon leading for most of the 4km race but having to settle for 2nd position at the finish. David Kiely ran strongly to take 6th position, Oisin Slattery came 13th and Joshua McJames finished behind the main bunch. The boys were unlucky to miss out on 3rd place in the team results by just 1 point.

In the senior boys 5km race, our boys  were hoping to retain their team crown and with courageous racing by the whole team they did just that. Evan McNamara claimed 3rd prize in the individual section, Michael Barrett 10th, Niall Dear 11th, Zoraster Koomans-O’Reilly 15th, John Scanlan 17th and Reuben Noyes 18th with Martin Cunningham finishing a little further down the field.
