Seamus O Rourke to appear at Scariff CC

Scariff Community College are delighted that  much loved  actor and Leitrim Playwright Seamus O Rourke will present his play ‘Padraig Potts Guide to Walking’  at the School Hall on Saturday February 6 at 8 pm. This play has been touring nationally after a very successful run in Edinburgh during the Summer of 2016.

 

Seamus teams up with director Charlie McGuinness for the heart-wrenching tale of Padraig Potts McKeirnan, a genteel boy bursting with the type of wit that is the trademark of Seamus O’Rourke’s masterful playwriting. This show will tear at your heart and cripple you with laughter. Both playwright and actor, Seamus not only give us one hell of a script, he also executes a perfect delivery with superb comic timing, bringing to life the journey of Padraig Potts.

 

We join Padraig growing up, much to the dissatisfaction and terminal heartbreak of his parents, in the small rural village of Drumnamee, Co Leitrim, as he tries to pave the way for an Irish life free from the ties of Catholic constrains. The audience gets to share in his joy of the perfect Protestant girl Sylvia Lang, the discovery of alcohol, and the shuddering repulsion at his plain and miserable wife Mary Tague.

 

This is the tale of a generation lost between the old world ruled by religion and the new world ruled by hearts. The unsung hero quietly shapes the world whilst accepting all that comes his way. However this is a crossover time. Could there be hope for Padraig yet?

Written and performed by Seamus O’Rourke, who is no stranger to Clare audiences with previous performances in Ride On, Dig, and Victor’s Dung at Glor in Ennis and the Mountshannon arts festival.  It looks as if Padraig Potts’ Guide to Walking is destined to be a classic. This is a show that is filled with just the right amount of nostalgia and humour and is not to be missed!
