Talent Competition 2013

Scariff Community College held its annual Talent Competition on Thursday May 2 in the School Hall. From early morning Ms Glass Music Teacher was busy co-ordinating a team of stage hands and performers preparing for that afternoon’s show. School Care taker Alan Tubridy along with Gearoid Devanney and Leaving Certificate Student Daniel Levie took command of sound.

At 2 pm when all staff and students were gathered in the school hall Mr Crossan opened the proceedings and introduced the three judges Mr Colm Madden, Ms Ann Marie Kavanagh and Mr Johnny O Brien. Masters of Ceremonies for the afternoon Dale Harrington and Martin Cunningham both TY students did a masterful job for the afternoon not to mention there wonderful jokes that they shared with the very appreciative audience.
In total there were 9 acts ranging from individual vocalists to mime artists with students from 1st to 6th year represented. There was a particularly high standard. At 3 o clock the judges retired to make there arduous decision and the crowd were entertained by some music students from 6th year.
After long and hard deliberation the judges returned to the hall and Mr John S Kelly ex Principal took to the stage to present the John S Kelly cup presented annually to the winner of the event. He complimented the high standard of performance and also the audience who he was sure had enjoyed there afternoon’s entertainment.
This year’s winner was announced Marie Gardiner 5th year student who sang one of her own compositions she was a very popular choice. 2nd place went to Leaving Cert students Finbarr and James Kieley who sang Tracy Chapman’s song “Fast Car” accompanied on guitar by the very talented Patrick Walsh from 3rd Year. This year’s 3rd place went to Daniel Levie Leaving Cert who sang the Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin Classic “Ain’t that a kick in the head”
