Orienteering
Orienteering is a competitive international sport that combines running with navigation. It is a timed race in which individual participants use a specially created, highly detailed map, to select routes, navigate through diverse terrain and visit control points in sequence. We have a permanent orienteering course at Scariff Community College and it is run as an extra-curricular activity at lunchtime. Students participating in orienteering can be involved for recreation or they can partake in the schools’ orienteering competitions. Competition events take place about 4-5 times a year and they are run mostly in parkland and forests. Students from Scariff Community College have won Munster titles in the past. www.orienteering.ie
