Clare Student Enterprise Final – Success for SCC Students

The Clare Student Enterprise final was held earlier this week via Zoom organized by LEO. Well done to Sarah Treacy 1st year who won the Runner up in the Junior Category with her enterprise “Sarah’s Farm Fresh Eggs” and to Transition Year Students Emily Chen, Grace Guilfoyle and Lorraine Grady who won the Best Sales Award in the Senior Category with their enterprise Custom Canvasses – Well done to the students and their teachers Ms Hassett and Ms Kelly.

“My student enterprise competition journey started when I was in Business Studies class In late November. My teacher Ms Kelly asked us”how do we afford to pay for our phone bills if we have a phone”.
I told her that I have 21 hens in my backyard in a special shed. I then explained how I sell the eggs in the local shop /Post office. I sell them as”Sarahs Farm Fresh Eggs “for €2 a 1/2 dozen. She then entered me into the Student Enterprise Programme Competition Junior Category. Firstly, I had to do up a business plan on word document and submit to the Student enterprise programme.
This followed in an interview lasting approximately 5 minutes via zoom last Monday with the lovely Judges Conor and Siobhan. They asked me questions about my business like how did the idea arise, where did my original finances come from and how did Covid-19 impact my business?
Last Wednesday via a hyperlink I tuned into the virtual final and was delighted to come runner-up in the Junior category. I was privileged to represent my school.
Thank you to Teresa Mulvihill who did a call with My teacher Ms S Kelly and I last week in preparation for the interview. It was great to know what the interview would involve. Thanks to Ms S Kelly who helped me even though it was difficult in these virtual times, and of course to my family for all their support since I started rearing hens.
