Dear Reader

We are very proud of our recent publication, Dear Reader – a collection of letters from people in our community writing about their favourite books and favourite poems. This delightful book was compiled over three years by Transition Year students and their teacher Ms. Colleran.

The first and most prestigious contributor to the book is Edna O’Brien of Tuamgraney. Her generous and gracious letter inspired Ms Colleran and the team to establish a perpetual award in the school to encourage our young writers. With the help of funding from Creative Ireland, the school has commissioned a bog oak sculpture by local artist Ian Kelly to create the  The Edna O’Brien Annual Award for Creative Writing in Scariff Community College.

Dear Reader  is available for sale in the GP of the school at lunchtimes or you can buy it from Pauline at the front office. It is also available for sale at Mairead Bane’s Gift Shop, Scariff. It costs €10.
