Science Talk – Our sun the nearest star.
Scariff Library was the location for a fascinating talk on ‘Our Sun, the nearest star’ that our 3rd year science classes attended today. This talk was given by Tony O’Hanlon to coincide with Irish Astronomy Week and to compliment the students Earth & Space unit of Learning. It featured how stars are born, how they are fuelled, what nebulae, sun spots and solar flares are, and also how our sun compares to other stars in the universe. There will be a partial solar eclipse on March 29th – but remember, never look directly at the sun – it emits so much energy that it can very quickly damage the retina in our eye!
