
Edna O’Brien Awards 2025
Congratulations to Reece Tobin, this year’s winner of the SCC Edna O’Brien Award, for his poem “Sonder” . Derry born writer Kerri ní Dochartaigh presented Reece with the beautiful award, 100euro and a place on a writing workshop during the Mountshannon Arts Festival. Well done also to James Bugler and Hailey Claasan whose work was highly commended and to Ella Treacy who won the prize for best short story. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the writers who supported this event on the day, Kerri ní Dochartaigh, Ruth Marshall, Greg Dinner, Eric McNamara, Nicki Griffin, Zak Reynolds and of course our judge this year, Rooney Prize winner Niamh Campbell. Micheal Blake spoke movingly about his late aunt and her contribution to literature and Ireland’s social history. Principal, Ms. McNamara, praised all the who contributed to making the event happen.
