Congratulations to Reece Tobin, this year’s winner of the SCC Edna O’Brien Award, for his poem “Sonder” . Derry born writer Kerri ní Dochartaigh presented Reece with the beautiful award, 100euro and a place on a writing workshop during the Mountshannon Arts Festival. Scariff Library was the location for a fascinating talk on ‘Our Sun, the nearest star’ that our 3rd year science classes attended today. This talk was given by Tony O’Hanlon to coincide with Irish Astronomy Week and to compliment the students Earth & Space unit of Learning. It featured how stars are born, how they are fuelled, what nebulae, sun spots and solar flares are, and also how our sun compares to other stars in the universe. Our Leaving cert agricultural science students attended an Agri-aware walk and talk today in Gurteen agricultural college. Here the students got to put there theory into practice as they got to witness farm safety demonstrations and obtained key information related to there agricultural science studies. Huge thanks to both Agri – aware & Gurteen agricultural college for hosting the event.
