Badminton has a long and successful history here in Scariff CC. Having strong local badminton and handball clubs ensures that students bring an extra dimension to their school competitions. All students have the option of trying out for the school teams. Each year we compete in the Clare schools competition in January where the winners go on to play in the Munster Schools in University of Limerick Sports Arena in February.

All students are introduced to a variety of cross country and track and field events during PE class. Students are then given the opportunity to participate in various events throughout the year.

Basketball is a hugely popular sport in our school.
Playing basketball has many benefits:
Teamwork – learning how to work with others towards a common goal is a critical life skill that a team sport such as basketball instils.
Physical fitness – playing basketball on a regular basis improves coordination & speed, as well as improving strength & cardiovascular health. Ball handling & dribbling also improve fine motor skills.

Orienteering

Category:

Orienteering is a competitive international sport that combines running with navigation. It is a timed race in which individual participants use a specially created, highly detailed map, to select routes, navigate through diverse terrain and visit control points in sequence. We have a permanent orienteering course at Scariff Community College and it is run as an extra-curricular activity at lunchtime. Students participating in orienteering can be involved for recreation or they can partake in the schools’ orienteering competitions.
