Last week we were honoured to have author  Donal Ryan  come to our school to present the SCC Edna O’Brien Awards 2023 Congratulations to our three Finalists, Ciara Cooney, Emily Chen and Eyla Lienhard. Rape Crisis Centre workshop for Third year students

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Rape Crisis Midwest have been asked to deliver workshops within Scarriff Community College on Tuesday 16th May 2023 to all 3rd year students within the school.
The workshop that we will be delivering will last for approximately two hours. The workshop is aimed at giving students a better understanding of health relationships, keeping themselves safe in within their peer groups and while engaging with social media, additionally we will explore how to ask for and get consent.

‘Call Tanya’ Helpline

There is a new Psychosocial Helpline, “Call Tanya,” which was launched on April 17th. The helpline provides confidential support to Ukrainians in Ireland who are experiencing distress due to displacement and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trained call ambassadors are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 to provide psycho-social support in Ukrainian and Russian. Callers can discuss their worries or concerns and receive support that respects their dignity, culture, and abilities, using the Psychological First Aid (PFA) model of look, listen, support. SCC Success at Munster Schools’ Badminton Final 2023

Our badminton teams put in a very long day at the Munster Schools competition today in UL. Each of our 4 teams had to play the champions from the other Munster counties and after all their efforts, it was silver  for the boys u19 team, losing out on the top spot by just 2 points – a tiny margin after 18 games played. Creative Writing in SCC with Luke Morgan

Students enjoyed the fun and energy that poet and filmmaker, Luke Morgan, brought to the creative writing process during his workshop last week. Get Going Get Rowing 2023

Scariff Community College was extremely successful again at the indoor rowing competition. Every person competed excellently and enjoyed their experience on a day when the standard was very high. The 3rd Year boys and TY/5th Year boys were unlucky to finish 4th in their races. 1st year girls and boys had amazing silver medal finishes and the second year girls finished top with a gold medal in their category. Well done to all involved, it was great to see students supporting and cheering each other on.
