A group of First Year students pictured who are taking part this week in Gaeilge 24. The students are taking on the challenge of ‘Labhairt as Gaeilge’ for 24 hours. Well done to Sophie Sheedy, Ciara Nugent, MJ Buckley, Cian Howard and Darragh O’ Donnell. This event is being organised by Ms Claire Burke

First Year Parent-teacher meeting

Our First Year Parent-Teacher meeting is scheduled for Thursday 24th November 2022. This will be an ‘in-person’ meeting but with the option of online attendance available if preferred and once arranged in advance.
Whether attending in-person or online, Parents/Guardians of First year students must register in advance by logging on to the PTMO system (Parent Teacher Meeting Organiser) at the link below. This will generate a schedule of appointments between 4.15pm – 6.45pm. Each appointment with teachers is a slot of 5 mins. Safe and Supportive Schools Programme (Info for Parents/Guardians)

Scariff Community College is participating in the ‘Safe and Supportive Schools’ (SASS) Programme run by BelongTo, a national organisation supporting LGBTQ+ young people in Ireland. The programme is a ground-breaking, whole-school strategy to support schools in creating a safe, equal, and inclusive school community for LGBTQ+ students.
At Scariff Community College we are working towards achieving the SASS Quality Mark. The four areas of competency to gain QMark are: Culture, Curriculum, Policy and Planning, and Relationships.

TY Overnight trip to Killary Adventure Centre

FAO: Parents/Guardians of TY students -TY overnight trip to Killary Adventure Centre Wednesday & Thursday Nov. 16th & 17th 2022. Bus leaving school at 9am Wednesday. Students will most likely not be back in time for school buses on Thursday as group will leave Killary after lunch – at 1pm approx. Students and Staff at Scariff Community College are recognising the LGBTQ+ community by participating in a national awareness campaign run by BeLonGTo Youth Services.
Stand Up Awareness Week is November 14th-18th and the theme for this year is taking a stand against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language.

Edna O Brien Perpetual Award

Warm thanks to artist Ian Kelly on the completion of this beautiful bog oak sculpture entitled, “Emergence”. This very special piece was commissioned by Scariff Community College to be the Edna O’Brien perpetual award for writing in our school. The project was funded by Creative Ireland and Ian, who himself is a past pupil. Open Evening Thursday, 6th October 2022. Doors open from 6.15pm with schedule starting at 6.30pm sharp.
